Shishu Vihar

Shishu Vihar is Chinmaya Mission’s newest creative initiative to include infants and toddlers (0 to 2 years 11 months of age) with a parent/guardian for an early introduction to spiritual education.

In Hindu tradition, the significance of sowing seeds of values early (even as early as in the womb!) is a familiar one.  Shishu Vihar helps to develop the spiritual aspect of the young child’s personality by focusing on imparting values and culture.

Classes follow a modern structure of playgroups where babies and toddlers learn through the weekly meeting of parent/child and sevikas. Learning becomes alive with stimulating activities to develop motor skills, listening to and learning chanting. singing along to bhajans, story time, arts and crafts, all at an age-appropriate level.

The concept of Shishu Vihar has been implemented in centers around the world through the vision of Swamini Supriyananda, a psychologist by profession turned sanyasini (Hindu monk).  Swaminiji first implemented Shishu Vihar in Hong Kong where she observes that, “The little ones have strong retentive power and are quick to learn.  The double benefit of mothers also learning is that the rhymes and stories get strongly embedded in the minds of the children.  Even 3-year-old children can chant the Hanuman Chalisa!”

Join us in the early development of personalities in an atmosphere of love and knowledge every sunday at Reedy Creek Middle School from 10:00 Am to 11:30 AM.
